My name is Rhonda and my dream of owning my own sled dog team became reality in May 2009. I am now what they call a "Recreational Musher" and this is where I will post all my adventures with my 9 Alaskan Huskies.
These harworking athletes amaze and teach me everyday. They are my dream come true.
MARI
January 2006 - Mari is the definition of sweetness and grace. She is an outstanding leader and has the cutest little happy dance she does anytime you talk to her.
FOX TROT
July 2008 - Fox Trot inherited her mothers sweetness and grace. She has really grown into an excellant leader in the last year and actually believes whole heartadly that she belongs there. The first one to crawl into my lap.
JAZZ
July 2008 - Jazz is a very calm sweet girl. She loves to lead with her sister Fox Trot but leans into her harness anywhere you put her.
JITTERBUG
July 2008 - Like her sisters and mom Jitterbug is a swett girl but has a little sass too. She is leads very well but shines in swing and pulls like a steam engine.
PIPER
April 2010 - Piper is a lovely girl who is a cheerleader and a hard pulling loper. She has fought hard to be here and we welcome her and can't wait to see her potential.
SAGE
May 2009 - Sage is a goofy, fun loving girl with speed to spare. She loves running, free or in harness doesn't matter she just wants to run.
CATAPOLT
May 2009 - Catapolt is a sweet natured girl who can trot like crazy. We are just getting to know each other so I will update you as we get aquainted
LUCY
April 2007 - Lucy is my girl. She works best for me, loves to stand on her house for pets and snuggles her nose right under your arm. Another excellant leader who listens too well sometimes. I am blessed to have a team so full of great leaders.
SIBOON
October 2006 - Siboon is my cheerleader on the team, he just loves to run. He will lead but is my go to wheel dog. Power and strength in one 60 lb package. Loves laying in my lap after a run.
THUNDER
January 2000 - Thunder is now retired. He will stay with us for the remainder of his years. He is enjoying being the dog yard dog.
CRICKET
February 2010. Cricket is our pet dog but he thinks he is a sled dog. He loves to come with me on training runs.
Down The Road
These dogs have moved onto pet or retirement homes. We miss them every day but know they are having great lives.
PROPHET
Prophet has come full circle and gone to spend his retirement in his original home. He has 3 other retired sled dogs to play with and miles of property to explore. We are so thankful for such a great home for our ole boy.
CHA CHA
Has found a new and loving home with friends of mine in Vancouver. We are glad she is happy in her new life.
Gone But Not Forgotten
“From time to time, people tell me, “lighten up, it’s just a dog”, or, “that’s a lot of money for just a dog”. They don’t understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for “just a dog”. Some of my proudest moments have come about with “just a dog”. Many hours have passed and my only company was “just a dog”, but I did not once feel slighted. Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by “just a dog” and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of “just a dog” gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day. If you, too, think it’s “just a dog”, then you will probably understand phases like “just a friend”, “just a sunrise”, or “just a promise”. “Just a dog” brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. “Just a dog” brings out the compassion and patience that makes me a better person. Because of “just a dog” I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it’s not “just a dog” but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment. “Just a dog” brings out what’s good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day. I hope that someday they can understand that it’s not “just a dog” but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being “just a human.” So the next time you hear the phrase “just a dog”, just smile, because they “just don’t understand”.
<3 <3 These "Just Dogs" have touched our lives and our hearts. We remember little moments with them every day. Gone but never forgotten <3 <3
